The m/y Why has been stranded in a port in Greece due to strong winds. On Friday 3 May in the tourist marina located on the island of Spetses, the yacht was stranded while strong gusts of winds hit the entire area.

A video shared online shows the motoryacht, Why, after it crashed into the pier. The bow of the yacht was damaged after it hit the pier and it began to take on water, requiring the assistance of the Greek Coast Guard. In the video, the 30 metre long motoryacht can be seen repeatedly crashing into the pier because of the strong wind and waves, until the hull is breached and water begins to enter.

Rescue services arrived quickly on the scene. Two private tugboats, a team of divers and a floating crane were needed to refloat the m/y Why. Lifting the vessel was much harder than expected due to the strong winds, and it was delayed until the weather improved.

It was only on Sunday 5 May that the vessel was finally lifted by a crane. After having removed the vessel, work was immediately undertaken as a precaution to avoid fuel pollution. All fuel was removed from the damaged vessel and the area where the m/y Why was stranded was cleaned.

The m/y Why is 30.2 metres long and was built in 2005 then refitted in 2023. It is a Posillipo Technema 95 model. The exterior design is by Carlo Galeazzi, while the interior was curated by Michela Riverberi. It is currently used for charter (one week’s vacation costs 54,000 euros plus expenses) and can hold up to 10 passengers in four cabins along with six crew members.
