A fire has broken out in the Ferretti shipyard facilities in Cattolica, destroying a 29-metre yacht ready for delivery to its owner. The flames have also damaged another two vessels nearby.

The alarm was given at 9:40 on Tuesday, 11 January. Fire fighters arrived on the scene alongside Arpa, who was there to verify if there was environmental damage. According to current information, the fire was caused by a short circuit in a fuse board.

A dozen people were working on the yacht, which was practically ready for delivery, and tried to extinguish the flames unsuccessfully. Once the first responders arrived they were checked over to ensure they had not been intoxicated by prolonged smoke exposure.

THE DAMAGED VESSEL

The vessel which was destroyed was a Ferretti Yachts 920. This was a yacht with an overall length of 28.49 metres and a value of approximately 9 million euros. The highly innovative design of this maxi flybridge focused mostly on space, with multifunctional areas for relaxation, sumptuously rich furnishings and a classic-contemporary style for the interior.

Ferretti Yachts 920 is a truly innovative design in the range because it introduces, for the first time, a “wide body” concept. Emphasising its eye-catching design is also the detail of the top rail continuing on to the gunwale and penetrating like a “blade” into the windows of the owner’s cabin.

The hull length of 23.93 metres allows for it to be registered as a pleasure craft. The profile, dynamic and wild, develops the design style that has lead to the international success of the models launched by Ferretti in the last few years, completely renewing the fleet. In addition to the raised bow, the exterior space is astounding for the amount of relaxation areas and sumptuous furnishings. Also extraordinary are the interiors, large and classy like those belonging to a higher category.

The incident in the shipyard caught the attention of a number of passers-by because of the flames and thick smoke rising from the Rimini facility for hours.
