Model Amer 120 number 15 of the Permare shipyard has won the 23rd edition of the World Yacht Trophy 2024 as “best semi-custom yacht”. The new vessel, 35.50 metres long, and nicknamed “Meta”, not only represents a technical achievement but is also a significant step forward for a more sustainable future for boating.

Permare has always believed in the power of innovative materials and their years of experience in refitting have given them the confidence and skills needed to go beyond the traditional uses of composites and adopt solutions with less environmental impact. Considered to be the link between Amer Yachts and Amer Steel, the Amer 120 model is the evident manifestation of this transformation.

Even the nickname, “Meta” was chosen to highlight the concept of metamorphosis, the passage from traditional materials like composite to more sustainable ones like metal. The model is a hybrid in materials, combining traditional composite, aluminium and glass. This choice was not made lightly but was dictated by the desire to reduce the use of traditional composite, another challenge taken on in the previous models.

The company have also begun “deglassing” fibreglass, a term they coined to describe the work they are doing in compensating weights, replacing traditional materials like fibreglass with low environmental impact alternatives. This balance is crucial to guarantee excellent performance without compromising sustainability.

Use of traditional fibreglass has been reduced in favour of materials like aluminium, which offers significant advantages both in terms of environmental impact and performance. To give an idea of the reach of this transformation, one needs only take into consideration the surfaces of the various boat components:

  • Hull/aft deck – 810 m² in fibreglass
  • Deckhouse – 395 m² in aluminium
  • Wheelhouse + rollbar – 320 m² in fibreglass.

This data estimates that, balancing the exterior surface with the interior, the amount of fibreglass used was reduced by 30% compared to traditional construction.

The result of years of research, experience and passion, Meta has been built using RINA classification, is equipped with 4 Volvo Penta D13-IPS1350 735kW engines and is available for charter, allowing a variety of different clients to enjoy a sustainable luxury experience and appreciate the innovative technology that marks it.
