Celle Ligure is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Western Ligurian Riviera, a few kilometres from Savona and part of the the Riviera del Beigua, (named after nearby Monte Beigua, 1287m high!). The town’s economy is based mostly on tourism, even though agriculture in the inland of Celle Ligure is still going strong, especially on the hillsides with the terraces known as “fasce” characteristic of Liguria: the olive trees and famous taggiasca olives, fruit trees like apricots, plums and peaches, and grapevines from which local Ligurian wines are made – Rossese, Pigato, Vermentino. Among the herbs of particular interest are basil and borage, also cultivated through the use of greenhouses. For hiking enthusiasts, the local area is home to many trails.
