A large-scale fire has destroyed the sailing megayacht, Phocea, a splendid 75 metre long vessel, with four masts, which, on 18 February was engulfed in flames while off of Langkawi, the largest of the 99 islands forming the archipelago of the same name, in Malaysia.

The 246-foot megayacht was built in the Dcan shipyard in Toulon, France, and was launched in 1976. It was refitted in 2000. Before going by the name Phocea, the vessel was known as La Vie Claire and was renowned for its luxury on board, in particular for the interiors designed by Jorg Biederbeck.

Below deck could easily accommodate 12 passengers in 6 spacious cabins, including a master suite, a VIP cabin and four double cabins. The crew could be up to 23 people who were housed in 10 cabins.

In addition to its four masts, Phocea had a 1,056 CV MTU diesel engine (12V 2000 M90) allowing the vessel to reach a maximum speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. With its tank holding up to 37 thousand litres of fuel, it had a maximum autonomy of 3 thousand nautical miles at 11 knots.
