In yacht design, technology content is a fundamental element. Although the first can be appreciated immediately, the second requires careful analysis. This is particularly evident in the Codecasa Classic Yacht 24-F242, which immediately catches the eye for its design, but also demonstrates the presence of latest generation in technology solutions, resulting from the work of the studio, NAMES owned by Francesco Rogantin.

Supplying technological content in the most exclusive designs – explains Rogantin – is our mission. The studio opened in April 2019, as a natural evolution in my career progression – I was working as a naval engineer on yacht projects of over 100 metres, then as technical manager of the Cantieri Navali in Lavagna, where I continued working on the development of the Admiral range, the 40-metre ‘Aqua’ and the 42-metre ‘Blue Eyes’.”

The work done by NAMES is complementary to that of design, with which it must always work in harmony and never overtake: only in this manner can hi-tech solutions be developed that will satisfy aesthetic and stylistic needs. The distinctive core business of Rogantin’s studio is therefore naval design for displacement or planing yachts in steel, aluminium, wood or composite materials, in addition to the other jobs such as supervision and support for the shipyard during design and construction.

The Codecasa Classic Yacht 24-F242 designed by Luca Dini is one of the many projects that NAMES is involved in: a complex challenge aimed at uniting Seventies design with advanced technology solutions. “The challenge – highlights Rogantin – was to bring classic design to a modern build, in order to make this 24-metre something unique. The designer, Luca Dini, has the merit of having given the yacht a marked personality, we on the other hand had the job of engineering that design. And by engineering a design we mean everything that  constitutes the structure of the boat, from studying the waterlines of the topside to construction solutions, for example, mounting the porthole in the hull, as well as, obviously, the bare bones of the hull and decks.

Specifically, for the Codecasa Classic Yacht 24-F242, NAMES had to come up with a special concealed crane on the main deck to launch the custom 4.8m tender. A solution that has a base role of leaving the area completely unencumbered once the tender is in the water and thereby allowing for an open air living space. Equally demanding was the design for the structure of the beach club to the stern, which the owner had asked be nearly completely enclosed.

24 metres long overall and with a maximum beam of 6.50 metres, the Codecasa Classic Yacht 24-F242 has a pair of MAN V12 engines at 1,550 HP each, capable of pushing the 90 tonnes of displacement with full-load at the impressive speed of 25 knots, also thanks to the semi-displacement hull, resulting from calculations made by Rogantin, equipped with traditional lineshaft transmission. Cruising speed is 20 knots, while autonomy is 2100nm at 9 knots thanks to a 10 thousand litre fuel tank. The interior layout has an owner’s cabin on the main deck and 3 guest cabins on the lower deck.

Currently in the Codecasa Shipyard in Viareggio, the hull is already in an advanced phase of outfitting and delivery is planned for summer 2023. “This – concludes Rogantin – is the first time that our studio has worked together with the Codecasa Shipyard. A partnership which will be repeated in the Classic 110 project, a 34-metre based on the aesthetics and design of the Codecasa Classic Yacht 24, again in partnership with Luca Dini Design.
