Three different Cruise Sub 7 submarines by U-Boat Worx have, in a single season, done a thousand dives in the frigid waters of the Antarctic. These are three submarines used by three Northern European cruise ships companies who have brought hundreds of passengers down into the depths of one of the most remote and uncontaminated oceans in the world.
For this purpose, the cruise ship owners chose submarines made by U-Boat Worx, which can descend up to 300 metres under the water safely and comfortably, but also, most importantly, sustainably. Having exclusively electric propulsion, these vehicles are non-polluting and are perfectly silent.
The companies that have purchased the three submarines from the Dutch brand, used to bring a select number of passengers to the deep for an intimate and exclusive experience, are Scenic, with the Eclipse (the first, since 2020), Viking Expedition, with Octantis, and Seabourn, with Venture, for its maiden voyage.
This is a choice with a high technological value and which has caused a stir in their passengers, learning more about marine life and the spectacular natural marvels of the Antarctic, which they can see directly in front of their very eyes, thanks to the 360-degree view guaranteed by the transparent acrylic shell of each submarine.
Recently, the yellow U-Boat Worx belonging to Viking Expedition’s Octantis, has had several sightings of the giant phantom jelly “scyphozoan Stygiomedusa gigantea”, which, according to National Geographic was discovered in 1910 and has only been seen 126 times since then.
