Baglietto is turning 170 and is celebrating with two new product ranges, designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design, expanding the shipyard’s range. These are the concept for the XO, for long cruises, and FAST50, a fast, hi-tech vessel.

CONCEPT DESIGN FOR THE BAGLIETTO XO BY FRANCESCO PASZKOWSKI DESIGN

XO is an explorer, but it is also an experience and exploration of the horizon ahead: these are the central concepts surrounding the new Baglietto design by Francesco Paszkowski Design, created for long cruises and for enjoying nature. A distinctive element of the design is an original space carved out above the wheelhouse, with a nearly spherical view of the surrounding seascape. Crittal style windows open out to the 360 degree view, while the central skylight provides a view of the sky, both during the day and night.

This “visual room” with sofas and cushions, also includes 6 large independent monitors with headphones, allowing passengers to enjoy a film or listen to music, or even to study the route and enjoy navigation from above thanks to a drone.

Inspired by the train industry, and in particular by the ETR 300 Settebello train which, in the 1950s revolutionised rail travel – with the driver located above the passengers and first class having a panoramic room – Baglietto XO, according to Francesco Paszkowski Design, has a different layout but the same concept: command position on the upper deck and an exclusive space for passengers on the deck above.

A design that only appears to be in contrast with the rest of the La Spezia-based shipyard’s fleet, but that actually takes ideas from different vessels, including a flybridge similar to the 16.50m or the upper deck with veranda opening on three sides like the T52. From this same vessel also comes the hull, for transoceanic voyages, with its solid “cut” bow to allow space for ropes and manoeuvres by the crew during extreme weather.

Aft, a central large glass hatch separates a multifunctional space, to be used as a gym, or a storage area for outdoor furniture or bicycles. A layout which leaves space for different configurations in style and space, including the option to be converted into a garage for two tenders up to 10 metres long.

The new Baglietto XO range designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design also stands out for its focus on sustainable boating, through the choice of special ceramics and paints with low impact and the addition of solar panels of the roof of the flybridge, to be used to recharge recreational vehicles on board. The vessel has 2 CAT C32 engines for a maximum speed of 16 knots.

FAST50, SPEED ACCORDING TO BAGLIETTO

Fifty metres, 4 MTU 2000M96L engines, a maximum speed of 30 knots for a displacement hull built using light alloy, laid out over three decks, top of the range of Baglietto’s fast boats, and also designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design. These are the details of the new FAST50, a part of the shipyard’s multi-award-winning fast boat tradition (including winning the Golden Compass in 2016 for Monokini), along with some innovation from the T52.

The stern on two levels has a collapsible gunwale that turns into a swimming platform, also visually creating contact with the water, thanks to the sun loungers designed to look like chaise longues. The gangplank is replaced by a transformer, to leave the design clean and formal. The interior and exterior spaces flow together, thanks to full height windows that open on three sides on the upper deck and the cut gunwales.

Choosing to move the integrated ventilation ducts to the outside of the hull, expands the amount of usable space in the main saloon, organised with a conversation area and TV, while the dining area is in the sky lounge on the upper deck. In this case, the design is inspired by the automotive industry, described through different technical details (like, for example the aft fairlead looking like the exhaust pipe of a sports car.

Differently from previous versions, the FAST50, thanks to its 3 decks, has a wide body owner’s cabin, with additional space without losing the view, created through the use of two integrated silk screened windows. The exterior spaces of the upper deck are generous both to the  stern, with lounges and sofas, and to the bow in front of the wheelhouse, with a hot tub. The layout includes two VIP cabins and the same number of twins with bathroom, on the lower deck, while the crew area is to the bow, with dinette, captain’s cabin and 4 crew cabins with pullman beds.

A garage with a flood launch system behind the engine room, houses a tender up to 7 metres, and the hull with low draught semi tunnel allows for sailing in shallow water. The first vessel of the FAST50 range designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design is currently under construction, with delivery planned for 2026.
