The third edition of the Tigullio Design District, a week at the sea front dedicated to Design Culture, successfully closed its doors after a large number of local and international visitors took part. There were a number of international guests taking part in the event, in addition to 16 country ambassadors and over 70 Italian and international partners, not counting the institutional sponsorship, supporters and media partners, including Daily Nautica.
CHINESE DELEGATION AT THE TIGULLIO DESIGN DISTRICT
Also taking part in the event was a Chinese delegation of 35 people, including industry professionals and representatives, accompanied by Luo Zhiwei and Xiao Aihua, respectively manager and assistant manager of the Shanghai Promotion Center for City of Design (a design committee for the promotion of Chinese design and member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Office) and by Xiaoyan Long, trade analyst for the Italian Trade Commission in Shanghai.
After a visit to the site of the Waterfront di Levante in Genova, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, to Torre Fara in Chiavari, the Castagnola Yacht shipyard in Lavagna and, as guests of honour, the exhibit “Design ante litteram – La sedia leggera di Chiavari dall’800 ad oggi”, the Chinese delegation participated in the first international forum of the Tigullio Design District, dedicated to Chinese-Italian exchange. The Sino-Italian Design Forum was a debate between three local design representatives (Elena Di Capita, Stefano Stevanè and Davide Olivieri) and three from Shanghai (Nie Jing, Xu Guang, John Yuan) moderated by Davide Conti and Luo Zhiwei, ambassador for the Tigullio Design District in China.
WINNERS OF THE 2024 SEA DESIGN AWARD
This was also the third edition of the Sea Design Award, a competition sponsored by the Associazione Culturale Liguria Design together with Nautic One aimed of university students studying in the faculty of nautical and industrial design, who were called upon to present an original project based on one of many marine themes. Newly restyled with a new logo and the addition of two new categories – Interior Design and Landscape Design – the award was given to the day cruiser “Furha” by Marina Pierotti, Orazio Sceusa, Francesca Romana Traietti and Alice Pellegrini from the universities of Perugia, Palerm and Roma Tre. A sinuously designed vessel inspired by the Antelope Canyon in Arizona, as is the colour palette of the hull and decor, its cabin height is reduced, thanks to its hydraulic pistons, in order to better store in a yacht garage.
The professional jury made up of Carlo Alessandrelli, editor of the Nautica Report, Leticia Castro, president of Centro Brasil Design, Tommaso Piazzolla, founder of Nautic One and by designers, Uros Pavasovic and Vivian Cheng, gave the second prize to the multifunctional amphibian vehicle “Prima” by Filippo Gentilini from the University of Genova. A resistant and standardised full-hybrid shell, ready for any situation – be it a question of safety or environment. Third place went to the dingy “Dreaming for All”, created to accommodate passengers with disabilities by Matteo De Francesco from the La Spezia site of the University of Genova.
