After 3 years of work, last month, Bilgin Yachts launched “Al Reem”, concluding their trilogy of 80-metre superyachts which began in 2020 with “Tatiana”, the biggest yacht to be built in Turkey at the time, and “Leona”, which won in the Boat 2024 Awards for “Outstanding Exterior Design – Motor Yachts 60m and Above”. A triad with which the Turkish shipyard, with 12 vessels currently under construction, introduces new standards in naval architecture and engineering reaching exceptional objectives in design, know-how and luxury.
“Even though Al Reem is the youngest in this series – explains Emrecan Özgün, founder and CEO of Unique Yacht Design, who curated the naval architecture and exteriors – it is the largest, with a gross tonnage of 1,758 GT (nearly 100 gross tonnes heavier than Tatiana). In order to achieve this objective, we completely redesigned the superstructure, with a more streamlined, fluid, imposing yet elegant profile.”
Triad of achievements for Bilgin Yachts
In addition to being much larger than its predecessors, Al Reem, accentuates the bold and modern aesthetic in its silhouette, due in part to the metallic grey/white and black colour of the superstructure. The space on board has been expanded, with 20% more outdoor space available to passengers on the aft decks, and a master suite looking forward with a 300° view over the water, private terrace and hot tub.
“Each of the triplet ships – notes Özgün – is distinctive. Al Reem’s layout, a bespoke design for the owner, includes areas that are spacious, elegant and luxurious, standing out for their continuous contact with the surrounding nature.”
The interior was curated by H2 Yacht Design, who also worked on Tatiana and Leona. “The aesthetic developed for Al Reem – says Jonny Horsfield, founder of the design studio – is completely new: we concentrated on a light chromatic-material palette, neutral, that gives a fresh and calm feeling.”
In addition to the “warm organic structure” provided by the wood, is polished stainless steel, which adds a touch of modernity. Wall panels, covered in soft cream-coloured leather, add softness and luxury, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The flooring, a mix of wood and silk carpet, completes the space, helping the owners and their guests to truly feel the “luxury under their feet”. Marble and crystal balance out this timeless result, adding brilliance to the space, as well as volume through the light reflecting on the surfaces.
Third breathtaking super yacht
The owner of the Al Reem was looking for a serene oasis, centred on calmness, purity and relaxation. The final design reflected these desires fully, with an open plan layout, indoor/outdoor flow and choice of finishings. “We have chosen these materials very carefully – explains Marino Perkisic, representing the owner – as well as the design elements, prioritising multifunctional spaces, great for socialising, without losing sight of the owner’s lifestyle, as he intends to use the super yacht during his free time, to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature in different exclusive locations around the world”.
“Building Al Reem – concludes Perkusic – has been an extraordinary partnership. I have to also note the role of the Bluewater International Broker team (editor’s note: who mediated and negotiated the building contract), who were a fundamental help in supervising construction alongside me. In spite of the initial challenges, Bilgin Yachts was proactive and the flexible team quickly established a productive working relationship. Creativity and attention to detail surpassed all expectations, translating the owner’s vision into breathtaking reality.”
