A terrifying plume of black smoke darkened the sky above the industrial area of Cala Saccaia, in Olbia on Tuesday 22 April. The flames spread throughout a warehouse belonging to the shipyard, Nautica Acqua which, according to local news outlets, had around forty boats stored inside.

Putting out the fire were five teams from the local fire brigade, who worked tirelessly through the night. Luckily, no injuries have been reported. All of the shipyard’s employees were able to get to safety.

The authorities employed other special aircraft dispatched from Olbia airport, including a helicopter that monitored the situation. The teams worked hard to cool the building so as to avoid heat damage to other warehouses nearby.

According to early investigations, the fire could have started from a vessel that was being worked on. Inside the warehouse were boats up to 30 metres, that were all destroyed in the fire, causing damages estimated to be in the millions of euros.
