Azimut Fly 82, the new flagship for Azimut’s Fly series, was presented during the Cannes and Genoa boat shows. Created in partnership with Alberto Mancini, who provided the vessel with an extremely contemporary design, and with Fabio Fantolino, who added a touch of refinement and elegance, Azimut Fly 82, is the perfect marriage of space, design and innovation. Daily Nautica interviewed Federico Lantero, head of product for Azimut Yachts, during the latest edition of the Genoa International Boat Show.

Complete privacy

Azimut Fly 82 is the perfect yacht for owners requiring privacy. “Often - explains Federico Lantero - boats don’t have large spaces and even co-existence with the crew is something to keep in mind. With Azimut Fly 82 we finally have a layout that provides a complete separation of spaces, with circuits completely dedicated to the owners and their guests.

Azimut Fly 82 has a full beam owner’s suite at midships, another two suites with double beds and another cabin with twins. The main characteristic is, however, on the main deck, where the day and service areas are separated through a door leading to the wheelhouse and kitchen, from where the crew can directly access their dedicated area.

Opening to the outside

Another characteristic of the vessel is the large outdoor space: opening to the outside is now one of the most important parts of new design projects, providing more direct contact with the water. “This effect - notes Lantero - is achieved through the use of large windows, almost full height, on both gunwales of the saloon, and then with design ideas that make a difference. One example is the deck to deck, a simple yet innovative idea, based on the use of an open hold door as the continuation of the classic cockpit, creating a terrace over the water.

Low emission yacht

The Azimut Fly 82 is a gem in regards to the use of boating technology. It falls under the Low Emission Yachts project that the Avigliana-based shipyard is bringing forward to create a family of vessels that can reduce fuel levels and, therefore, CO2.

To be a part of this family - concludes Federico Lantero - we have given ourselves a fairly ambitious objective, between 20 and 30% less consumption compared to traditional vessels. This is achieved through the use of a number of different tools, for example, innovative propulsion: the Azimut Fly 82 uses triple engines, based on smaller motors with POD transmission. Another method is the use of carbon fibre, which reduces the weight of the vessel and, as a consequence, consumption.
