Ice Yachts are bringing one of the shipyard’s most innovative designs to the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024, running from 10 to 15 September – the new Ice 53 ST. With its elegance and fast construction in high performing full carbon, the Ice 53 Sport Turismo is truly two-in-one, meaning that the same boat can be used for both racing in its Race configuration, or for cruising, with Cruise specific interiors.

The shipyard’s main objective was to significantly improve the already high performance of the ICE 52 RS, so as to make the Ice 53 ST one of the most beautiful and fastest boats in the 50-foot performance-cruising category. Compared to the RS version, the “ST” weighs over two tonnes less, with a dry weight of approximately 10 tonnes, and a sail plan for both upwind and downwind.

The hull is laminated in epoxy resin through the infusion of quadraxial fabric and unidirectional carbon fibre with joint reinforcements, while, in order to laminate the skin of the hull, a three-step epoxy infusion technique is used.  The nucleus is vacuum-glued closed cell PVC. These choices, in addition to reducing weight, give the boat a solidness and robustness that perfectly supports the repeated solicitations and heavy loads faced during some of the hardest races.

The keel is a new custom design, made using Weldox700 steel with high end mechanical properties and a final draught of 3.4 metres, while the fin keel is in CNC processed using innovative CFD studies and weights 3,700kg to be added to the 600 of the blade. The helm with its blade and axis in carbon fibre, has been completely redesigned and is longer with a reduced lateral surface area, guaranteeing excellent control, even when the vessel is tilted or heavily laden. Safety is always at the heart of both the design and construction.

The new open space layout is strongly symmetrical and based on a study of the ideal weight distribution for a competitive boat. The interior layout is also studied to be extremely versatile, in order to quickly change from crusie configuration to race configuration. Lastly, the interior finish is a balanced mix between varnished white surfaces and and panels with a light finish.

We created a boat – says Marco Malgara, CEO for ICE Yachts – that is beautiful, refined, light, fast, competitive yet also comfortable. A bombshell, the top of the market.” Together with the Ice 53 ST, the company will be showing the new Ice 66 RS at Cannes.
