In the world of yachting—where every detail contributes to a yacht’s image and operation—crew uniforms also play a significant role. This is precisely the focus of the Style Department, the division of Floating Life dedicated to designing and managing onboard uniform supplies. The company—founded in 2006 by Barbara Tambani and Andrea Pezzini and active primarily in yacht management—has developed over time a service capable of responding precisely to the operational needs of owners, captains, and crew.

Sharing the core of this work with us is Annalisa Mutti, head of the Style Department, who boards yachts around the world every day to transform crew requirements into tailor-made uniforms.

The service that makes the difference: boarding the yacht and measuring the entire crew

The most important aspect of our work,is the direct contact with the crew” Mutti explains. The first stages of the consultation always begin on board, where the team works alongside those who oversee clothing in the yacht’s daily routine: the chief stewardess, the second stewardess or, on superyachts, the purser.

Before the visit, the crew sends a list of preferred styles and colours selected from the Floating Life Style website: “This allows us to arrive with a targeted sample set, already calibrated to their needs. Once on board, I take each crew member’s measurements—details such as hem length included.” The uniforms are then delivered ready to wear, already organised in personalised organisers. A bespoke service that effectively eliminates errors, delays, and unnecessarily bulky stock.

Made in Italy that withstands sun, salt and the seasons

Quality, Mutti tells us, is the foundation of the entire collection. “All our fabrics are Made in Italy, selected to ensure maximum performance in the marine environment.” Among the most commonly used materials is polyamide, a technical fibre offering breathability, durability, and above all easy care—a characteristic highly appreciated by crews as it reduces the need for ironing.

The process begins with choosing the fabric together with the in-house designer—an expert with more than 30 years’ experience—before moving on to the prototype, fit adjustments, and finally production. “During the season we maintain a constant stock to ensure continuity and fast replenishment: within two weeks we can fully replace any missing sizes.”

A collection the Floating Life Style department is particularly proud of is the Privée Collection, an exclusive line designed to transform clients’ ideas into unique, perfectly tailor-made garments. Entirely custom-made, it responds to the specific needs of owners and crew alike. It is a process that blends creativity, personalisation, and technical know-how to achieve a result faithful to the client’s initial vision.

Functionality, image and sustainability: how yacht requirements are changing

Crew needs have evolved, Mutti confirms: today, comfort and practicality are essential. Alongside this, attention to sustainability is growing—an area in which Floating Life Style is heavily investing. “We already offer several pieces made with low-impact fabrics and we continue to develop new ones. It’s a path we’re keen to expand further.”

The issue of stock and the value of a continuous service

One of the most common mistakes on board is the tendency to purchase large quantities of garments “just to be safe”. “This often happens because some collections from other brands are discontinued. With us, there’s no need to stockpile: the crew can order only what they need, when they need it.” This is a crucial advantage, especially when a team member changes: Floating Life Style can immediately provide the exact same set as the rest of the crew, ensuring a consistent image at all times.

Mutti boards yachts worldwide: “Direct contact with captains and stewardesses from different cultures has sharpened my ability to listen and interpret their needs. This job requires enthusiasm, positivity, and a willingness to propose new, always bespoke solutions.”
