During Design Miami, Rossinavi presented Solsea, a hybrid-electric catamaran superyacht, conceived by designer, Yves Béhar, founder of California-based design studio, fuseproject. A visionary superyacht that further raises the bar for innovation and excellence, not just from a design point of view.

Created for sustainable and silent ocean navigation, Solsea is the result of research and teamwork that lasted over 3 years, starting with defining the needs of an active-type owner, who is a passionate marine explorer, sporty, and eco-conscious. But also someone who loves comfort and beauty.

It has been an incredible journey – notes Federico Rossi, general manager for Rossinavi – seeing how Yves Béhar reinvented the platform of our hybrid-electric catamaran. His vision with its fresh prospects brought with it a style that is both luxurious and refined. A partnership that started shortly after we developed the concept for the Seawolf X, around 3 years ago, which marked a new and exciting chapter for our shipyard. Given the success of our first catamaran with artificial intelligence, here is a second interpretation of this technology in boating.

Rossinavi AI on board

The Solsea catamaran is equipped with Rossinavi AI, advanced artificial intelligence used to maximise ecological potential and improve comfort for passengers. AI constantly monitors all operative modes of the hull, acting as a supervisor, which can learn through observation to then become predictive, anticipating the needs of the passengers. A particularly useful tool for the crew as well, as they can extrapolate the information needed for impeccable navigation, customised for the owner who is on board, in addition to following low environmental impact practices and behaviours.

Rossinavi AI also monitors the Solsea’s batteries, ensuring they remain in the optimal charge range (between 20 and 80%). This helps the batteries last longer and guarantees the consistent efficiency of the systems.

Solsea’s sustainable scenarios

The concept is designed for different navigational scenarios – day trips, multi-day trips, transatlantic sailing – made possible by the versatility of the technology on board, as well as the system’s sustainability. On day trips, the catamaran functions, 100% of the time using only electric energy and for longer trips, 90%, but in ocean crossings (for example across the Atlantic), the percentage still remains high, around 80% of sailing time.

Solsea charges quickly, in just 5 hours, and when it is docked it enters “hibernation”mode, reducing energy consumption to a minimum. And the solar panels, integrated in the shading structures, can return part of the energy produced back to the pier or use it for life on board.

Ecological and efficient design

The soft, welcoming design of the superyacht, is enhanced through the colours and materials used in the spaces, in natural tones, wood and three-dimensional textiles, infusing the space with warmth and tranquillity. The ecological footprint is also reduced through the choice of finishes, including, for example, Amorim cork for the floors, or recycled plastic collected from the oceans.

For me, Solsea – explains Yves Béharrepresents a return to a more simple and respectful lifestyle, to enjoy the seas and oceans, taking advantage of the future of efficient propulsion and advanced technology.” This concept embodies the modernity of responsible pleasure yachting, demonstrating how now luxury and environmental awareness can coexist harmoniously.

The layout cancels the traditional limits of the space on catamarans, to provide the stern with an ample space that can be transformed into a platform for water sports and other activities, a master suite that covers the entire width of the hull’s platform, with a 180°-view and private balcony, a lounge pool to the bow with a mechanical hardtop (which lowers during navigation without needing to change the setup of the areas) and a raised solarium terrace.
