On his Olympic Laser ILCA7, the famous designer travelled 321.5 miles along the waters of the Adriatic Sea

Never give up! A clear gaze, incredible willpower and a spirit of adventure. Dan Lenard, co-founder of Nuvolari Lenard, completed his endeavour. After his attempt in June, which failed due to lack of wind, the famous designer, on his Olympic Laser ILCA7, travelled 321.5 miles along the waters of the Adriatic Sea. Seven days of sailing in solitary without ever setting foot on the ground. A challenge done for the love of sailing, and for sustainability, and leading to Dan Lenard being written into the pages of the Guinness World Record.

We interviewed the yacht designer a few days after his endeavour. We found out more about his adventure, but above all, about the environmental-awareness challenge heralded by this great yacht designer.

It was a beautiful journey – he says – with perfect weather, in a beautiful location, kind of an extreme vacation, if you will. I wasn’t just trying to beat a world record. I was having fun on board a boat that I love very much.

The importance of travelling plastic free

In addition to the sporting challenge, was an environmental one: the importance of sailing sustainably and as plastic free as possible. According to Dan Lenard, ou don’t need to do much to pollute the ocean less. Everyone, not just sailors, can contribute to the project, for example, by reducing plastic packaging in the foods brought on board…
