A design the speaks to the future without forgetting the past. This is the philosophy of Alberto Mancini, the yacht designer who worked on the exterior design of the new Azimut Grande 30M, presented during the Cannes Yachting Festival. On board the yacht, Mancini shared with Daily Nautica his vision and the path he is undertaking to redefine the brand’s style identity.

“Audacious, pure and connected to the water”

Azimut design has always been recognisable – explains Mancini to Daily Nautica – but in the past it was more tied to a two-dimensional approach. Now, thanks to 3D modelling and the work done by my studio, the sculpted shapes and clean surfaces give Azimut yachts new personality. This isn’t just an evolution, it is new DNA.

DNA that the designer describes in three words: audacious, pure, and connected to the water. “This is a design that looks to the future – adds Mancini – but which also, at the same time, pays homage to the brand’s tradition.

The Grande 30M: a 30-metre with the soul of a mega yacht

The main topic of the interview is the Grande 30M, a yacht that unites style innovation and functionality, with exterior design curated by Alberto Mancini and interiors by m2atelier. A partnership that marks the passing of the baton from Achille Salvagni. “This is the first time that my exteriors dialogue with interiors that haven’t been designed by Salvagni – shares Mancini – and I find that m2atelier have given a fresh new vision,, while still maintaining Azimut’s spirit.

The spaces on board give the feeling of a mega yacht Mancini takes us to the fly deck: “I call it – he notes – Infinity Deck Lounge. Imagine a loft in Miami or New YorkOpening the aft and starboard windows you have a 180-degree view. With the lateral passages that are over a metre wide, we have created proper balconies overlooking the water.

Deck2Deck and innovation

One of the most surprising solutions is the Deck2Deck Terrace system, which, thanks ot the rotating transom, extends the length of the cockpit and changes the space based on need. “This is an idea I have already applied to other designs – notes the designer – but here it has even more impact, because it increases flexibility and provides new ways of enjoying the boat.

The main saloon has bright flowing spaces, while the interior plays with materials and colours to create an informal and welcoming atmosphere, perfectly balanced withthe elegant character of the exterior.

Evolution of the series and the future of Azimut design

Looking beyond the Grande 30M, manicin cites the evolution of the Azimut range: from the Trideck 38M, still flagship of the brand, to the future Grande 44M, expected to be one of the most ambitious designs they have ever released.

The 44 metre – he says – represents the essence of what I call pure, audacious design that is connected to the water. It will have sea-view terraces on multiple levels, a 180-degree panoramic beach club and spaces that dialogue with natural light like never before.

According to the yacht designer, the future will be marked by modularity and sustainability: “New owners – he reminds us – are looking for less ostentatious solutions, that are more versatile and family friendly. In parallel, there is growing attentiveness for the environment, more more efficient yachts in both consumption and emissions. For us designers, this means working with more pure lines and sculpted proportions, without ever losing sight of functionality.

Grande 30M: innovation and sustainability

The Grande 30M is not just aesthetics. The design also provides a consumption and CO2 emission reduction of up to -30%, highlighting the work Azimut is doing for more sustainable boating.  Thanks to solutions like the Deck2Deck terrace and Infinity Skydeck, this vessel also redefines the liveability parameters for vessels of this size, with a harmonious dialogue between humans and nature that is becoming a herald of style for the new generation.
