Daily Nautica went on board the most anticipated yacht of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2025 with Sanlorenzo CEO, Tommaso Vincenzi
The Cannes Yachting Festival 2025 was the stage chosen by Sanlorenzo to present three models that showcase the soul and evolution of the Italian shipyard. During the event, Daily Nautica had the opportunity to go on board the new SX120, which made its world debut, for a video interview with CEO Tommaso Vincenzi.
“I don’t think there is a single thread connecting the three models – explains Vincenzi – because they belong to different series and they tell different stories. The SL110, for example, represents Sanlorenzo’s tradition: shape, elegance and flow, in a series that has been the backbone for our brand.”
From the SL110 to the SD132
Among the Cannes premieres, Vincenzi also notes the importance of the SD132, the current flagship for the SD series. “This boat already has an owner – he shares with DN – and spent the summer in Croatia as a charter. It was much appreciated by both the owner and the passengers. With its 420 GT this is an imposing vessel, which embodies our idea of liveability and comfort on board.”
The SX120 – innovation, design and sustainability
The heart of our interview, however, was the SX120, the yacht we were on during our chat with the Sanlorenzo CEO. “This project – notes Vincenzi – stems from the success of the SX112 and took shape through our partnership with Volvo Penta. For the first time, we installed the new IPS platform, a revolutionary platform that allowed us to completely reinterpret our use of space, and the yacht’s performance.”
The IPS Professional Platform by Volvo Penta is a propulsion system that guarantees reduced consumption and emissions, opening the door to increasingly sustainable yachting. With its 37 metres in length and 270 GT tonnage, the SX120 is the biggest yacht ever built following the crossover concept in the SX series.
A floating villa designed by Zuccon and Lissoni
The yacht exterior was designed by Zuccon International Project, while the interior design was by Piero Lissoni. “We completely revised the layout,” – explains the CEO of Sanlorenzo. The lower deck is now directly connected to the saloon and aft area, while to the bow we have an owner’s suite overlooking the water. In addition, for the first time in this series, we introduced a third deck,” a sun deck that improves liveability and makes for a beautiful viewing area.
Among the other innovative elements are the extendible beach area, which expands to 70m2, the integrated disappearing mini pool to the stern and the spectacular sculpted staircase that dominates the Main Deck. High end materials like slatted wood, steel effect inserts and marble effect ceramics make the rooms refined and welcoming.
Sanlorenzo and the future of yachting
Our interview with Tommaso Vincenzi confirms once again how Sanlorenzo do not limit themselves to simply building yachts, but want to redefine the experience of yachting itself, and with the SX120 they are strengthening their position in the luxury yacht sector, marrying aesthetics, technological innovation and sustainability.
The Cannes Yachting Festival saw the debut of a vessel that not only redesigns the concept of liveability on board, but also launches a clear message: the future of yachting comes from designs that can unite luxury and environmental conciousness.
