A successful entrepreneur, with a political and diplomatic career in both his home country and abroad, Mohammed Hussein Alshaali, CEO of Gulf Craft, has expanded the Emirates-based shipyard. Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement, in this interview with Daily Nautica, he tells us of the hard work, achievements and future objectives for the company.
Gulf Craft was founded over forty years ago, what are the projects and innovations that have gradually transformed the shipyard to bring it to its current level of professionalism?
“Over the past four decades, Gulf Craft has embarked on a remarkable journey, transforming from a modest boat builder to one of the world’s leading luxury superyacht and leisure boat builders. Our diverse range of vessels, spanning from 32 to 175 feet, caters to a broad spectrum of clientele under six distinct brands: the prestigious Majesty Yachts, the adventurous Nomad Yachts, the sporty Oryx sports cruisers, the versatile Silvercraft and SilverCAT family and fishing boats, and the reliable Touring Passenger Vessels.
There are four key milestones that have shaped our transformation:
- Expansion into Luxury Yachting: Recognizing the growing demand for luxury yachts in the region, we ventured into the construction of larger, more sophisticated vessels, culminating in the flagship Majesty 175, the world’s largest composite production superyacht.
- State-of-the-Art Facilities: Investing in cutting-edge technology and world-class facilities has enabled us to produce yachts of exceptional quality and complexity. Our manufacturing facilities in the UAE and Maldives, totalling over 1.3 million square feet, are equipped with advanced machinery and skilled craftsmen.
- Design Innovation: Collaborating with renowned designers and naval architects, we’ve pushed the boundaries of yacht design, creating iconic vessels that blend aesthetics with functionality.
- Global Reach: Expanding our international presence has allowed us to connect with discerning yacht owners worldwide.
This unwavering commitment to innovation, coupled with our dedication to craftsmanship and customer satisfaction, has propelled Gulf Craft to its current position as a global leader in the yachting industry. To date, we have built over 10,000 boats, a testament to our enduring legacy and unwavering dedication.”
What can you tell us about the nautical sector in the Middle East?
“The Middle East, with its rich maritime heritage, has always had an intrinsic connection to the sea. From the days of traditional dhow sailing and pearl diving to the modern era of luxury yachting, the region’s relationship with the water runs deep. In recent years, the Middle East has emerged as a significant player in the global nautical sector. The development of world-class marinas in the UAE, such as Dubai Harbour and Rashid Marina, has significantly enhanced the region’s yachting infrastructure. Additionally, countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt are investing heavily in new mega-yacht developments, further solidifying the Middle East’s position as a global yachting hub. While this growth is exciting, it is crucial to balance economic development with environmental sustainability. Addressing challenges such as infrastructure development, regulatory frameworks, and marine conservation is essential to preserve the region’s maritime heritage for future generations.”
What are the main expectations and needs of an owner who chooses Gulf Craft?

And what do you think is the future of the global sector in general? Will sustainability and artificial intelligence have an increasingly significant impact on boating too, in your opinion?
“The future of the global yachting industry is undoubtedly bright, with sustainability and technological advancements shaping its trajectory. While AI and automation are rapidly evolving, the human element will remain indispensable. We’ve already implemented sustainable initiatives, such as incorporating recycled materials into our interiors and optimizing hull designs for fuel efficiency. By harnessing renewable energy sources like solar power and employing advanced energy-saving technologies, we’re reducing our environmental footprint. Moreover, we’re actively involved in community-based initiatives, including beach clean-ups and recycling programs, to further our commitment to environmental stewardship. Yachting, however, is more than just a mode of transportation; it’s an experience. The human touch, the ability to anticipate and cater to individual preferences, will continue to be a cornerstone of the industry. By blending technological innovation with human expertise, we can create truly exceptional yachting experiences that are both luxurious and sustainable.”
